Comment David Attenborough by Steve - 17/06/2008 2:37 PM
Congratulations on the wonderful David Attenborough interview.

I've been a big fan of David Attenborough for over 45 years and, in addition to watching him on TV over that time, I have met him personally at a function and have seen him present two seminars on stage. Yet I felt that I learned more about David Attenborough, the person, during the interview with Andrew Denton than I have had from viewing him on TV and on the stage.

Well done, Andrew, for exploring the personal philosophies of such a wise oracle of the 20th & 21st Centuries.

I was very moved by this interview with David Attenborough and should very much like to view it again sometime. There are matters in the interview on which he expressed his opinion, thoughts which we would all do very well to heed. But is it too late?

What would you say to a suicide bomber? c'mon....

even as a fan, I had no choice but to change the channel at that point.

I think we would have been happy to touch on religion and evolution, but to drag on and make him squirm! Its a bit of a tired topic really...

I look forward to the next installment. We need more people like him on our planet.

I saw the interview with David Attenborough, and it appears like Andrew Denton is always trying to get people off-guard. It appears like he is competing for something with the interviewee, rather than letting the interview naturally develop. I found his persistance on the toping of religion disrespectful. David also talked about living a principalled life - I would have liked to know what these were, which would have been appropriate given the theme of the programe, but Andrew did not ask. Andrew does need to rethink his interviewing strategies at this time, I think.

Comment David Attenborugh Interview by Ahmad Fawad Sami - 17/06/2008 12:04 PM
Hi Andrew,

I enjoyed your interview with David upto the point where you asked him the Question " In today's world which is more important faiths or knowledge". And then you followed this up with what do you say to a suicide bomber ? I did not like this question because this indirectly applies that Suicide bombing is done out of faiths and as a result those who have faiths meaning all Muslims are suicide bombers. Since you are so good at reasearch I would like you to find one proof in the entire Islamic teachings that encourages suicide bombings. Islam does not hide anything in its teachings.
Suicide bombing if you look at it closely is done out of knowledge not out of faiths. It is done out of desperation and people being brainwashed. If proper knowledege of Islam is there then people would never commit suicide bombing.
"We ordained for the children of Israel that if anyone slew a person, unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land, it would be as if he slew the whole of mankind. And if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of a whole people". (Quran, al-Ma’ida, 5:32)

Comment Sir David Attenborough by Linda - 17/06/2008 12:02 PM
Thank you so much for bringing the charming and inspirational Sir David Attenborough into our lounge room once again. I could listen to this wonderful man for hours. His documentaries are a must watch in our house. He is such an inspiration at the wonderful age of 82 and hopefully will be with us for a while yet.
Thank you for bringing us such interesting people, I especially loved your episode with the fantastic Miriam Margolyes, what a character and what an interview!!!
Andrew Denton, you are one of the great interviewers of our time, you get to the core of these wonderful people. Personally - Parky is waaaaaay overrated and he just got a knighthood! Who knows one day:::::: Sir Andrew Denton maybe??.

Comment Sir David Attenborough by Catherine Dulhunty - 17/06/2008 11:52 AM
Interesting interview, Andrew. I thought the debate about reason versus faith was long finished. They are complementary, not contradictory. I am very comfortable with both the theory of evolution and belief in the existence in God. I was amazed that a man of Attenborough's intelligence and extraordinary knowledge has an an image of God that seems to be that of a fairy godmother, so if a child has the horror of a worm in its eye - a fairy godmother would not allow that - therefore there is no God. Funny how we blame God or dismiss God, when if we use the intelligence God gave us (through evolution) we can move beyond our image/ideas of God to the real God. I look forward to the next Elders show.

Interesting program with Attenborough. Given his passion for Evolution, would be interesting to consider were we are going.

"Artificial Intelligence Will Kill Our Grandchildren" - might be of interest to people interested in this.

I have just watched Angels and Demons on the website. It is so beautiful. How can we find out how Heidi and Sandy are? I want to send them so much love. Thank you Andrew for this special program.

Comment Sir Attenborough - Denton Transcipt by Don Rowe - 17/06/2008 11:27 AM
I appreciate the intent to provide an accurate transcript of the interview, but the inclusion of vocalised thought, (eg "um", "ah", repeated words, etc) makes the transcript much harder to read and absorb.

Can I request that, while maintaining the accuracy of the conversation, it be "cleaned up" for the medium of text?

Hi Don,

Thanks for your feedback. We will endeavour to make the transcript easier to read and understand.

Thanks,

Comment Sir David Attenborough by Bo - 17/06/2008 10:58 AM
Dear Andrew, I watch your show when i remember its on (sorry) and last night you guessed Sir David Attenborough, and i must say, i could not take my eyes off the tele. He was so interesting and such a practical man with old fashioned values and morals. You were very respectful with your questions and did not once make him feel or luck uncomfortable with answering them. I love his documentaries and to watch him talk about his beliefs, life, and passion for life, was a pleasure to say the least. Congratulations for an interview well projected. I can honestly say, its the best one I have seen. Top marks.
Regards,
Bo xx
p.s: you are very charming yourself.
