Israeli airstrikes continue to pound Gaza as the Palestinian death toll from the offensive climbs to 508 and Israel's casualties include eighteen soldiers and two civilians.

EMMA ALBERICI, PRESENTER: Israeli air strikes continued to pound Gaza on Monday as the death toll among Palestinians from the offensive in the Gaza Strip reached more than 500.

Israel says 18 of its soldiers have also died, along with two civilians.

At first light, Israel resumed its air strikes and tank shelling on militant targets in Gaza and 30 Palestinian people have been killed so far today in Khan Younis and Rafah.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military said it foiled a Hamas infiltration attempt on Monday through two tunnels leading from northern Gaza into southern Israel.

Israel says 10 militants were killed after being detected and targeted by Israeli aircraft.

PETER LERNER, ISRAELI MILITARY SPOKESMAN: Indeed, it just goes to show and exemplify their intentions to attack Israel, to attack the Israeli communities. We are doing our best to defend the State of Israel, that is what we're doing and that is what we will continue to do.

EMMA ALBERICI: The military offensive which began nearly two weeks ago shows no signs of abating, despite international calls for a truce.
