One of the most crucial points in human existence is that each and everyones brain create its own reality.
So everyones reality is different and based on own experience even though we are able to communicate and find a consensus about things; e.g. what we consider a tree, rain or the colour red.
Most of what we call reality is based on our ability to speak, name things and share those descriptions with others and our offspring to influence their idea of what is considered reality. Unfortunately, our language is limited and with that our thoughts are bound on our ability to name and describe things.

Much of the work of the early Zen masters or the great philosophers, e.g. Ptolemaios, circles the idea of reality. Namely the works of A. Wittgenstein about language is a milestone in that.

The point that we all create our own reality and only our language enable us to share ideas about what we consider for real is one reason for all misunderstandings and trouble we have in society, politics and between human beings in general.

Try to explain someone else how hot the tea is you drink. You'll find that an impossible task.

Arthur C Clarke lived a couple of miles from my place when I lived in Sri Lanka. It blows my mind now when I think back to the first time I saw 2001, A Space Odyssey and realise that at the time he was at his desk, probably writing Rendezvous With Rama.

Do you suppose because of his condition, Hawking blames God, thus hates him and uses his esteem to promote atheism, in order to get back at the God he knows exists!!

I believe the universe is 14 billion years old. It took about 3 billion for the earth to form and for humans to get where we are now.

If on the outer edges of the universe life could be 7 billion years older than us.
2oo years ago it took 6 months to get a message from the east coast to the west coast.
Now you or I can send a message 1/2 way around the world in the blink of an eye.
That is what we have done in 200 years.

What could a being do that is 7 billion years older than humans?
It would seem reasonable for them to be able to change reality anywhere in the universe  with a mere thought.
To do things we are a billions years from even considering.

Do you believe the is an unlimited number of universes and realities? Science says it could be.  That opens up the possibility of the existence of God. A being that understands reality on all of its levels and can manipulate that reality the way we understand and manipulate a ham sandwich.

Further more if there are infinite universes   Then that means that the is the definite possibility that there are beings that are infinitely older than 14 billion years.  How old is the oldest universe and the oldest being in existence?

Hard science says that there is a definite possibility could God exist.

+Pat Hahaha, name calling?!? No need to capitalize atheist. It's not a religion or proper name in any way, but a basic description. Again, I invite you to provide specifics to any of your positions. Or just keep calling people nasty names... because that's mature and effective communication. I don't know enough about you to form a proper assessment, but your behavior here is telling.

I don’t believe that the current president of the United States of America is president Obama. But someone may argue with me otherwise. But I say president Obama does not exist unless I personally see him in the white house. But to see him, I have to travel to the white house and when I get there, the FBI has to do a background check on me to make sure that I have a clean criminal record and then the secret service will search me to make sure I have no weapons on me and then I have to wait several hours before meeting with the president of the United States.

Same way with God.
If You really want to see and know God (the creator of heaven and earth and everything we see and do not see) then You have to follow certain rules.

Please read John chapter, 14:21

“Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.”

Please read Hebrews 11:6

“But without faith it is impossible to please him, for anyone who approaches God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”

Please read Deuteronomy 4:29

“Yet when you seek the LORD, your God, from there, you shall indeed find him if you search after him with all your heart and soul.”

God does exist. He has revealed himself to me and to many other people. I am sure that He will reveal himself to you too if you do what He said in his Gospel, as mentioned above.

From now on You can Not say that God does not exist because God does exist but it is Your choice to see and know God or not. Also keep in mind that God doesn’t force you to know or love him and He has created us with free will.

It's interesting that the same mechanisms and steps that the bible how to 'know God is real' is the same mechanisms and steps it takes to believe rubbing a rabbit's foot brings luck, or that a coffee cup grants wishes when it's favorite beverage is poured into it.

+Ken Derstine You must have missed the, in my opinion, quite obvious sarcasm of my post, as I actually don't believe in any god, big or small.
And I didn't say anything at all about sex, but since I'm an atheist I guess that point is irrelevant anyway.

Arthur Clarke: "Politics and religion are obsolete. The time has come for science and spirituality."

Stephen Hawking: "I don't think physics tell us how to behave to our neighbors."

It's almost like Clarke wants science to be a religion, a way of life, but this makes Hawking uncomfortable. Like he doesn't think it's science's job or purpose to (for example) tell us how to behave to our neighbors, nor should it be.

That's why he said "Science AND spirituality" And also, how one should behave anywhere or any time is dictated by your morals, and your morals is passed from your parents, to you. However, if it was science leading this earth, and not Politicians in search of oil in the west, and religion in the east. Everything would be much better.

186,000 miles a second X 1,314,000 (one year) X 3.2 is (roughly) the distance to the nearest star. Objects larger than an atom would need to break at least two fundamental laws of nature to go faster than the speed of light. That would be like dreaming how we clever humans could someday engineer a tiny space craft that uses no internal power source and shrink humans down to sub atomic size. Only discussing the qualities of a god without a childhood could be more silly of an activity for (so called) intelligent (evolved) primates. If I ever think I see a ghost open a door or magic happen, I for one will be looking for the fishing line or trick. I'll do my dreaming of personal super powers while I'm asleep as my own brain will play tricks on me.

+DeathByNomming look at it this way, say we are at a point now, and infinite amount of lines can pass through that point, so not must everything that can happen, happen. it must also happen now as an infinite number of timelines pass through what  am/doing at this point in time. So there is an argument that say time is not linear. Time is in fact a plane perpendicular to what we think of as our linear timeline. In that plane there are an infinite amount of timelines playing like looking at a huge bank of TV screens. Because there are an infinite amount of screens playing everything that can happen must happen and must be happening now. But to get the the cusp of the conversation if we were to jump between these lines we wouldn't neccessariiy be crossing a vast distance but it would seem like we did. I read it conjuction with some stuff on the multiverse theory so it is related to that.

The USA has 1 in 3 people (110,119,000 cases 2012 statistics, worse now) with an STD. Some STD's are not curable, permanent and reduce your life and increased suffering. STD’s give rise to fetal mutations that cause 1 in 88 babies born with autism. 1 in 125 born with congenital heart disease. 1 in 10 born with permanent defects, 200% rise in STD's in 10 years and 122% rise just this year, is evidence that social liberalism/ communism and atheism is bad for health.

You see Evodelusionism and anti God nonsense causes atheism.  Atheism causes moral degradation.  Moral degradation causes STD's and infected mothers and fathers.  Infected people have infected cells at reproduction.

It is how the science of cause and effect works.

+GoodScienceForYou "You and your entire family are suffering from and will die from any number of genetic disease we have inherited." Yup. Same as yours and almost everyone else's in the entire world.

"Yet you think humans are better?"
Good job claiming things I've never said.

"Could it possibly be that you are misguided by your government who would never lie to you?" I don't know whether you live in USA or not, but things here are VERY different as far as governments go. And to answer to the question you should have posted before accusing me of anything, no, I do not believe anything the government says (I don't even know what the government says on this matter-if it says anything in the first place), but I don't go around claiming conspiracy theories and other dumb shit either. Instead, I see the evidence and I trust (most of the times) what the scientists have to say (Of course, what they have to say must conform to the evidence). For example, I don't know much about climate change, but I know that if more than 99% of the scientific community out there has evidence and written papers on the subject that proves that it is true, then It's most likely true.

"Could it be that you are so emotional" Do you even know what being "emotional" means? Apparently not, since I'm not being emotional. I'm just telling you that, yes, we have this rapid increase in genetic diseases and all, but the cause is definitely not atheism.

Humans, ALL humans, are weak and stupid now, compared to our ancestors.

We would not live past 15 to 25 years without medical aid.  Yet you still want to think we have "improved".

Very interesting!  I would have liked to have heard more from Mr. Hawking. I bought A brief history of time when I was 9 years old and I think it is still the best book I have read.  I plan on reading it again this summer to further process the information. I keep coming back to Mr. Hawking's book I feel there is an answer there and I just need to ask/think of the right question.  As stated in show "Where did the energy particles come from prior to the Big Bang? (Important) How can we find this out? Infinity Zero nothing, Black Holes,Time, measured theory. I will have to think some more.
Carlos A. Perez-Delgado originally shared this

Carl Sagan, Stephen Hawking, and Arthur C. Clarke in an interview together, discussing " God, The Universe and Everything."

Taped in 1988, this is a real gem that I just happened to stumble upon.

Questions inspired from this - Are all known physical laws a construct of our space time, which doesn't necessarily apply to "before" the big bang?  Our brains are a function of this space time evolution.  Even if, do we still get hints of beyond the big bang because we are also part of that?  If the universe is holographic and a multiverse what does it  converge to?  And our brains must perceive this.  I can only imagine a translucent point of a pin, infinity and nothing at the same time.  So fun to think about.

Ok Christians please understand one thing Science does not say there is nor there isn't a God. The Existence of God is a none issue it does not equate to any formula. So stop projecting your own fragile beliefs to science and education.

Kind of a stretch here, but I'm looking for someone who knows a decent amount about both quantum computing and the Mandelbrot Set. I'm guessing quantum computing will allow us to see deeper into the Mandelbrot Set. What I'm wondering is, does that mean anything to us other than seeing deeper into mathematical infinity? And is my supposition about quantum computing correct? Thank you.

quantum computing will not really let us look deeper in the Mandelbrot set ad normal computer. just  a lot quicker.

at this moment there is no definite method to even make a real feasible quantum computer.
but if you want to know more about it the main aspect of computing would be the entanglement effect.
this enables communication to be faster then light. and also instantly be it  a micrometer or a billion light years.
so not just computing would benefit in this way but communication even more. right now it takes a while to communicate with lets say the mars probe. but with quantum entangled enabled communication we will have real time control and feedback from anywhere in the universe.

i think if there is intelligence life out there, if they are advanced as the human race or more, they will be kind and smart enough to know not to be cruel. On earth, cruelty is on its way out. Equality and understanding is something that as we evolve becomes 2nd nature.
Reply

well we have a perfect example why this is just a guess that is less certain then they are being just as cruel as us.
and we aren't evolving to be less cruel we simply learn not to be cruel that is big difference.
everyone has the potential to be either a pol pot or a ghandi. and this is why we never must get complacement by saying we are physically changing to be better then our forebears. this will simply open up the windw for the monsters of our own species to get power. and even today we let cruel greedy bastards lead us.
the real crux is i do not think we cannot truly go without greed and a smal lleevl of cruelty. we still need driving engines to advance. with this i am not saying this is necessary to have negative aspects in our world to advance but we simply need a drive.
